Sinopec actively engages in the earthquake relief activities by donating to victims of the earthquake-stricken areas in Sichuan and going all out to support the reconstruction work.

On May 12th, 2008, an earthquake measured 8.0 on the Richter scale hit Wenchuan, Sichuan province. Sinopec immediately issues the emergency notice of "Making Every Effort to Fight the Earthquake" and listed out 10 specific measures to guarantee supply and fight the disaster. Sinopec Chairman Mr. Su Shulin call upon the company to "guarantee gasoline and diesel supply wherever the rescue vehicles and equipment go." The motorcade responsible for oil supply manages to ensure oil supply to the earthquake stricken area through mobile fueling, using vehicles and manpower, which provides material support to the earthquake relief and rescue efforts. In order to timely aid people caught in the disaster area, Sinopec organizes 9 professional rescue teams, 1 expert rescue team and 23 engineering rescue teams and successfully rescues 34 lives, finds more than 100 victims and extends medical treatment to hundreds of wounded. In the wake of the earthquake breakout, Sinopec and its employees actively support the relief and reconstruction work by voluntarily donating in cash and kind. Sinopec donates cash, oil product, materials, medicine, anti-epidemic products, rescue equipment, devices and movable plank houses to Sichuan, Shanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, Chongqing and the Oriental Electronics & Gas Group with an accumulative value of RMB 307.604 million.

Sinopec braves the heavy snow and icy rains and extends warm heart to the stricken areas.

In Jan. 2008, the southern part of China is severely stricken by a historically unprecedented snow storm with ultra low temperatures. Sinopec quickly initiates an emergency response plan and forms a leading group headed by its chairman Su Shulin to guard against the disaster and ensure oil supply. Sinopec launched a nation-wide donating campaign. By Feb. 2nd, 2008, RMB14 million is raised to aid such badly stricken provinces as Guizhou, Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Guangxi and Anhui. On Mar. 7, 2008, Sinopec employees donate a total of RMB 13million to the country's 13 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions respectively.

Sinopec funds the Spring-Bud program to help the female dropouts.

From 2004 on, Sinopec entrusts China Children and Teenagers' Fund to sponsor girls from poor families of 26 counties in Guizhou, Sichuan, Gansu and Hubei with China National Committee for the Wellbeing of the Youth as a co-sponsor. Sinopec has for many times sent representatives to the poor areas abovementioned and conducted a research on the status of female dropouts. In addition, Sinopec consults on the allocation and availability of the fund many times to ensure every penny of the fund is used properly. So far Sinopec has doled out RMB43.146 million to 30,318 girls from grade 4-6 in elementary schools and high schools under the Spring-Bud program.

Sinopec Funds "Lifeline Express" to bring light to cataract sufferers

In 2008, Sinopec continues to sponsor "Lifeline Express" and successfully cured 2338 cataract sufferers from poor areas of Kashi county, Xin Jiang Autonomous Region and Chuxiong county, Yunnan province. Main parts of the Lifeline Express vehicle entitled as "Sinopec Sunshine" has been completed and is expected to be commissioned in early 2009.

Sinopec participates in the "Poverty Alleviation & Aid to Tibet" program. Sinopec implements 12 poverty alleviation programs and invests RMB12.4million in the pilot poverty alleviation counties of Yingshang, Yuexi, Luxi and Fenghuang. The programs include infrastructure building, educational support, industrial development and trainings on labor export.

In 2008, Sinopec donated RMB18.47 million to support the construction of Bange county, Tibet and help with the completion of 9 Aid-to-Tibet projects such as herdsmen’s peaceful living projects, hardening projects for parts of roads and venues of the county£¬bridges with simple structure, drinking projects for both man and animals, solar lightening projects for herdsmen, construction work for village culture venues and educational support projects, etc.
