SINOPEC Exploration & Production Research Institute (SEPRI) is an integrated research institute focused on oil and gas exploration and production of SINOPEC. Established in 2000, SEPRI is headquartered in Beijing with three branches in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, Jiangsu Province and Anhui Province respectively. SEPRI holds a post-doctor program. Oil and Gas Geology, Petroleum Geology and Experiment are published by SEPRI.
SEPRI was originated from the petroleum geology research institutions of the former Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources (MGMR). With over 40 years’ history and 10 years’ development experience, SEPRI has formed its distinguished techniques and expertise in petroleum exploration & development strategic planning, petroleum reservoir forming theory and resources assessment for marine carbonate sequence, fractured-vuggy carbonate development reservoir, development technologies for specific gas reservoirs, specific reservoir prediction technologies, geochemical petroleum exploration technologies and testing & experimenting analysis. SEPRI has been awarded the TOP Certificate of National E&P Engineering Consultation. Petroleum geology test center oilfield chemicals sample test center and of SEPRI have passed national measurement authentication.
SEPRI serves as an advisory department of petroleum E&P and upstream development strategy, R&D and service department of upstream key technologies, and information and geological data center of petroleum E&P. SEPRI covers both domestic and international business with the focus on international activities. Research projects are orientated by E&P business activities with concentration on understanding of domestic and international technologies integration and innovation. Research achievements are applied to support domestic and international E&P activities.
SEPRI’s international business focuses on block screening & assessment of overseas projects, technical support for key E&P projects and strategic research & planning for middle- and long-term overseas oil and gas development. SEPRI’s domestic business covers providing advices and support for SINOPEC’s E&P decision-making and technical support for E&P activities in Northwest China, North China, Northeast China and Sichuan Basin. SEPRI also undertakes and organizes researches on national/mistrial key projects. We have been focusing on R&D of our core technologies and distinctive technologies and their applications.
In 2010, SEPRI has made great progress in oilfield services and internal management. We have won 10 sci-tech progress awards at/above provincial/ministerial levels and been granted 11 patents. SINOPEC’s 12th Five-Year Plan for the upsteam sector was carried out by SEPIR in 2010. To serve SINOPEC’s overseas E&P activities, we have founded Overseas Strategic Research Division, Overseas E&P Projects Screening & Evaluation Division and Overseas E&P Projects Technical Supporting Center. In the past year, we assessed over 70 overseas new E&P projects for SINOPEC International Petroleum Exploration & Production Company (SIPC) and provided excellent technical support for Addax, Syria, Angola and Andes projects. We teamed with SINOPEC Northwest Company and made breakthroughs in two frontier areas with the successful drilling of the Yubei-1 well and the Shun-7 well in the Ba-Mai region and in the Tazhong region respectively. In Northeast China, we established a series of techniques for the E&P of volcanic gas reservoirs through joints efforts of professionals specialized in different field. In North China, we developed new technologies such as multi-wavelet decomposition. And we provided great support for the West-to-East Gas Transportation Project.
SEPRI has established business relationships with several oil companies and enterprises and partnered with research institutions and universities home and abroad. Integrity, collaboration, innovation and execution are identified as the most important common values of the SEPRI in its R&D activities. With strong institutional capacity and personal capabilities, SEPRI has integrated reform, management and innovations and is ready to contribute to the realization of the national energy development strategy and sustainable development of SINOPEC.
