Sinopec Xi' an Petrochemical Company (hereinafter referred to as the company) is located beside Weishui river, the ancient city of Xi'an , to the east of Xi'an airport highway. It is mainly engaged in oil refining, paving asphalt and ranks one of the five major asphalt production bases of Sinopec.

The company covers an area of approximately 207.41 acres with the factory coverage of 193.95 acres.

The predecessor of the company is Xi’an Petrochemical Works whose construction began in 1967 and it was owned by Xi’an City. In Dec. 1998, it was assigned for free to China National Star Petroleum Co, Ltd which was merged into Sinopec Group in Feb. 29, 2000. In Dec. 2003, it was purchased by Sinopec and was established as Sinopec Xi’an Company at the beginning of 2004.

At present, the company has 2 systems with 8 sets of processing units. One system includes the asphalt production units which mainly process the heavy crude oil from Tahe oilfield. These units are the atmospheric and vacuum distillation unit with an annual capacity of 1 million tons, A-grade asphalt unit with an annual capacity of 300 thousand tons, modified asphalt unit, etc; the other system contains the fuel oil processing units which mostly process the light crude oil from Changqing oil field. These units are the atmospheric distillation unit with an annual capacity of 1 million tons, heavy crude oil catalytic cracking unit with an annual capacity of 500 thousand tons, diesel oil hydrogen-adding unit with an annual capacity of 300 thousand tons, 2000Nm3/h hydrogen-making unit, gas separation unit with an annual capacity of 120 thousand tons, MTBE unit with an annual capacity of 20 thousand tons, etc. The pillar products of the company range from the asphalt series (high grade paving asphalt, modified asphalt, ect.) to petrol, diesel oil, liquefied petroleum gas and propylene.

The company is advantageously situated nearest to the crude oilfield in west China and to the centre of a favorable oil-consuming market. This creates a desirable situation for the processing and selling of oil products, and contributes to the company’s strategic position in the “supportive linkage between the upstream and downstream”. The company is directed to give impetus to the neighboring oilfields and promote the integration of west China resources. It is operated strategically to expand west China market, stabilize east China marketing and boost the general oil products sales. It aims to be an indispensable link in the interregional business cooperation between Sinopec subsidiaries.
