In March 2007, with the purpose of implementing resource developing strategy, SINOPEC adjusted its oil & gas exploration
management system and SINOPEC Exploration Southern Company (Exploration Southern Company for short) was established as a
subordinate company of SINOPEC Exploration Company , which consisted of professional persons and others related from
departments of exploration research, exploration management of original Southern Exploration and Development Company and
Central-South Company. In May 2008, SINOPEC adjusted its exploration management system once again to revoke Exploration
Company to define that Exploration Southern Company maintain its present system, scale and level, that is , Exploration
Southern Company is managed by new Department of Oilfield Exploration & Development, directly under SINOPEC .
Exploration Southern Company is in charge of risky exploration in new area of southern China roundly and undertakes the
undertakings of “Developing Southern China”. The exploration targets includes marine Mesozoic-Paleozoic and terrestrial
Mesozoic –Cenozoic, its exploration area covers the area of Qinling-Dabie-Jiaonan orogenic belt to the south, Tibetan
Plateau to the east and Yellow sea to the west, with the total exploration area about 1.96×105㎞2 and the total resource
quantity 9.5×1012 m3.
According to the operating mechanism of Decision by Group, Management by Project, Operating by Market and Serving society,
Exploration Southern Company has introduced modern enterprise management methods, adopted project management during the
whole exploration course and all exploration projects are operated by public biding and professional brigades are
introduced from various oilfields(institutions and universities) to undertake constructions and synthetic researches. At
present, Exploration Southern Company has established a set of project managing mode and operating mechanism suitable for
the new exploration area of southern China to ensure smooth implementation of exploration projects.
Exploration Southern Company adhered to theory, technology and management innovation and found out Puguang Gas Field with
the largest-scale and the highest abundance so far in the new marine area. During the course of keeping promoting southern
marine exploration, the company insists on strengthening basic geological researches and sci-tech tackling and a set of
geological theories has been formed gradually, taking sedimentary model, reservoir development, hydrocarbon generation
model and reservoiring mechanism as the core. Furthermore, a set of seismic prospect technology, taking reservoir
forecasting of deep carbonate rocks in complex mountains, has been formed as well as a set of drilling and testing
engineering technology in deep well and super-deep well adapting to marine carbonate rocks exploration. All these have made
a solid base for accelerating decision of resource base for “Eastern Transfer of Sichuan Gas”as well as for enlarging
oil & gas exploration results.
Exploration Southern Company has made great achievements in oil & gas exploration by sticking to oil & gas exploration
strategy of Developing Southern China of SINOPEC, making oil & gas resource as the core, considering oil & gas broken as
the emphasis, taking discovering large-medium oil & gas field as the aim to carry out three level plan of Exploration
Expansion, Exploration Broken, Exploration Preparation and to implement oil & gas exploration. From 2003 to 2009, the
company has obtained 3rd level reserves 1.5×1012 m3 and the project of 《Natural Gas Reservoiring Mechanism Of Marine Deep
Carbonate Rocks, Exploration Technology & Discovery of Puguang Gas Field》won the first prize of national scientific and
technological progress.
