Southwest Petroleum Company is affiliated to SINOPEC and specializes in oil & gas exploration, development and sale in southwest China. Southwest Petroleum Company was once a geological exploration team, which made great contribution to the discovery of Daqing, Jilin and Liaohe Oil field. The new Southwest Petroleum Company was reorganized according to the reform plan of SINOPEC on the base of merger with the former South Exploration Company in March, 2007.

Through the experience of oil and gas E&P in Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou and Guangxi, Southwest Petroleum Company has established many study and engineering units specialize in oil & gas exploration and development, transportation and sale areas. Many provincial and national experts and technicians have been brought up and a young stuff training base has been formed by the establishment of the postdoctoral study station. With the efficient application of social resources, Southwest Petroleum Company has made good cooperation with domestic and foreign colleges, study institutes and oil companies and a series of high tech study accomplishments has been achieved on geological theories of oil & gas accumulation, geological seismic, drilling, well completion, geological logging, physical logging, recovery and transportation. Some of them won the national first prizes, second prizes and third prizes of scientific study and many won the provincial prizes.

Southwest Petroleum Company now owns 19 oil & gas exploration blocks, 17 recovery blocks and pre-recovery blocks, totaling 34000 square kilometers. The total gas resource reaches 8 trillion cubic meters. Until 2007, the 3-Grade reserves in Sichuan Basin which belongs to Southwest Petroleum Company equals 83.49932 million tons oil.

Southwest Petroleum Company produced 2.7 billion cubic meters gas in 2007.Now it has more than 1000 oil and gas wells, 310 Gas transportation stations and 3000 kilometers gas gathering pipeline. A strong and independent systemic network of gas production, delivery and sale has been formed. The gas market is distributed mainly over west and north Sichuan, such as Chengdu, Deyang, Mianyang etc.

Southwest Petroleum Company will hold the Management, Innovation, Harmony and Development guideline in the 11th five-year plan, sparing no effort to establish the 10 trillion gas field and realize the great-leap-forward development.
