SINOPEC Shanghai Offshore Oil & Gas Company (hereinafter referred as “Shanghai Company”), with rich experiences in offshore oil and gas exploration and controlling certain developing technique, is engaged especially in offshore oil and gas exploration and development.
Shanghai Company has three main business scopes: First, on behalf of SINOPEC, playing a significant role in the management including exploration evaluation research, development construction and production technique managing, defending SINOPEC’s shareholder rights in two cooperation projects i.e. Xihu Project and Pinghu Project; the Second is undertaking an autonomous exploration in the regions in either the East China Sea, the South China Sea and the Yellow Sea for the purpose of finding new oil and gas field to establish autonomous developing base as soon as possible; the Third is undertaking the research work on appraisal of the oversea oil and gas resources exploration and development project.
On the basis of the SINOPEC policy “keep stable in the east, speed up in the west, develop in the south and make a great breakthrough on offshore”, Shanghai Company has carried out a series of petroleum geologic study on Beibu Gulf in order to make a great breakthrough in oil and gas discovery in this newly exploration area, such as the analysis of the oil reservoir forming conditions and trap evaluation on the well drilling target , finished the reasoning of Weixi well location in Weixi Block, Beibu Gulf, which provide a solid basis and full preparation for well drilling in Weixi Block of Weixinan Depression. At the same time, Shanghai Company has also finished the pilot exploration project of SINOPEC “The Evaluation on the Exploration Targets and Well Location Reasoning of Parameter Taken Well in the Exploration Areas of Qiongdongnan Basin”. Through studies, it is believed that hydrocarbon resources are very rich in Exploration Areas of Qiongdongnan Basin. In addition, the study project “Studies on the Hydrocarbon Resources and Optimization of Hydrocarbon Exploration Areas in South Yellow Sea Basin” has been carried out. Through studies, a further geologic understanding about this basin has been obtained, and a comprehensive evaluation on the Mesozoic-Cenozoic favorable belts in South Yellow Sea Basin has been obtained, which lay a solid foundation for optimization of hydrocarbon exploration areas which will be registered for getting approval for exploration.
Shanghai Company has involved in the development of Pinghu Oilfield. This oilfield is the first discovered and developed oilfield in the East China Sea, with an area of 242 km2 and it started to supply natural gas for Shanghai in 1999, with 326.09×104 t oil and 39.58×108 m3 gas been produced respectively till the end of 2008 . Shanghai Company is also involved in the study on stimulation of the low-permeable gas reservoirs in Bajiaoting structure , proposed suggestion on measures of the acidizing , fracturing and sidetracking, which have been taken effect now. In the light of the current situation of Pinghu Oilfield, Shanghai Company participated in finding backup reserves, finished the project “Geologic Research and Exploration Target Evaluation of Pinghu Oilfield” and proposed exploration planning. Interregional drilling and exploration project was confirmed and approved by headquarters of SINOPEC. The agreement between Shanghai Company and Shanghai Petroleum Company was signed to confirm Pinghu 10 well to be drilled in early 2009.
The first phase of Chunxiao project of Xihu program was completed in Feb 8, 2006.
Shanghai Company has conducted many overseas projects, mainly responsible for the technical supports to the overseas offshore projects, such as “Sahalin”, “Australia” “Nigeria” and etc.. The results of the study have obtained the high praise from the Sinopec International Oil Exploration and Development Cooperation. On the basis of the “Complex Interpretation of Veni 3-D Seismic Data” , Shanghai Company Sahalin Research Project team proposed the well location of the North Veni-1 Well, which made a significant breakthrough and opened a new page for overseas offshore exploration of Sinopec. The “Australia NT/P76 Block Exploration” Project is also making progress. The whole design of the project has been completed and the complex research of the block oil geology is being conducted.
Up to the end of year 2008, Shanghai Company owns a share of proven geological reserve of 916.1 million ton of oil and 316.7 hundred million cubic meter of gas, and 46 exploring wells and appraisal wells in total had been drilled which hit a 60% more success rate. Up to present date, the Company owns twelve marine autonomous exploration blocks in about 56748km2 that located in East China Sea Basin, Qiongdongnan Basin and Beibu Gulf Basin. Jointly shared with China National Offshore Oil Corporation, Shanghai Company also owns thirteen prospecting blocks and two exploiting blocks located in East China Sea Shelf Basin, Xihu Trough covering 37765km2.
A series of achievements covering various fields such as coast investigation, sea bed mineral resources investigation, maritime space delimitation, sea bed sedimentary topography study ect. has been made by Shanghai Company. More than 60 various awards has been granted to the Company by National science and technology committee, National development and reform commission, State Economic and Trade Commission, State Mineral Resource Commission, Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Finance, SINOPEC and Shanghai Municipal Government together with a honorable title of Notable Unit of Geological and Mineral Resources Exploration.
