SINOPEC Jianghan Oilfield Company (JOC hereinafter) is located in the beautiful and rich Jianghan Plain, with its headquarter in the national star city, Qianjiang city, Hubei Province. It is geographically advantageous and convenient in traffic, just 150 km west of Wuhan City, the thoroughfare leading to nine provinces, and 60 km east of Jingzhou City, the famous historic and cultural city.

Since the exploration for petroleum and production campaign began in 1958 and 1969, respectively, it has established four areas for petroleum exploration and development, including Jianghan Oilfield in Hubei, Bamianhe Oilfield in Shandong, Pingbei Oilfield in Shaanxi, and Jiannan Gasfield in West Hubei-East Chongqing, which are managed by the Jianghan Oil Production Plant, Songzi Oil Production Plant, Qinghe Oil Production Plant, Pingbei Management Department and Jiannan Natural Gas Exploration and Development Department. By the end of 2009, JOC had won prospecting licenses in 13 areas of China, with a total proven OOIP 34668×104t and OGIP 159.91×108m3, where JOC had discovered a total of 31 oilfields and one oilfield, accumulatively producing oil 5126×104t and natural gas 18.96×108m3.

In Jianghan Basin, salt and brine resources are as abundant as 790 billion tons of proved halite reserves and 100 billion cubic meters of brine. JOC’s Jianghan Salt & Chemical Complex can produce 4 series of more than 20 products, such as bleaching powder concentrate, ion-membrane caustic soda, liquid chlorine, and refined salt. It has an annual capacity of 30000 tons of bleaching powder concentrate which ranks the first in Asia and the third in the world with 98% of the product exported abroad.

Over decades of practice, JOC has accumulated rich experiences in technologies for petroleum exploration and engineering service, covering selection of exploration areas, basin evaluation, play optimization and target bed drilling; it is capable of independent development of median to large- sized marine and continental packaged fields, complex faulted block fields and extra-low permeability fields. It has developed a series of technologies for petroleum exploration and development with Jianghan characters, such as technologies for exploration and development of continental complex faulted block reservoirs, marine carbonate reservoirs, and subtle reservoirs in the salt lake basin, technologies for seismic data acquisition, processing and interpretation in topographically complicated areas, technologies for development of low-permeability reservoirs, and technologies for exploration and development of non-conventional reservoirs such as heavy oil and inter-salt dolomite reservoirs. Since 2005, JOC has been awarded 2 Science Research Prizes in Hubei Province, 17 in SINOPEC, and 167 in JOC. In addition, a total of 21 technologies have been applied for patent, including 20 technologies winning patents.

Looking forward to the future, JOC will co-advance marine and continental explorations, increase gas yield and stabilize oil production, and boost the development of characteristic technologies for petroleum engineering and salt-brine chemical industry, through comprehensive implementation of the scientific outlook on development and the strategies of sustainable and compatible development and resources expansion, so as to build JOC into an economy- developed, environment-beautiful, well-ordered harmonious company.
