SINOPEC Guangdong Petroleum Branch (hereinafter referred to as “SINOPEC Guangdong”) is a marketing enterprise directly under the China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation, whose predecessor is Guangzhou Branch of China Oil Trading Corporation established in June 1950, which was restructured as Guangdong Provincial Oil Corporation in November 1961, renamed as Guangdong Provincial Oil Enterprise Group Corporation in August 1992 in accordance with the decision of Guangdong Provincial People’s Government to establish five major circulation groups, and wholly transferred to China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation with its 116 companies in cities and counties across Guangdong province in July 1998. In the first half of 2000, according to requirements of restructuring Sinopec Group, the main businesses of Guangdong Provincial Oil Enterprise Group Corporation were organized into Guangdong Oil Products Company of China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (hereinafter referred to as “SINOPEC Guangdong”).
After 50 years of construction, SINOPEC Guangdong has developed into a large-scale state-owned enterprise with 16 municipal (regional) branches, more than 2,000 gas stations in operation, more than 200 direct wholesale outlets, nearly 200 oil-taking outlets, more than 40 oil depots in operation and with a total assets of RMB 17.577 billion yuan, forming a marketing network covering the whole Guangdong province and establishing an increasingly perfect service system, as well as becoming a major supplier in Guangdong’s oil products markets with a leading position. In 2007, it ranked No.4 among the “Top 50 Enterprises in Guangdong Province” jointly assessed by Guangdong Provincial Economic, Trade Commission and Guangdong Provincial Bureau of Statistics, and ranked No.14 among the “50 Most Competitive Large-scale Enterprises in Guangdong Province” assessed by Competitiveness Assessment Center of Guangdong Provincial Academy of Social Sciences and Guangdong Provincial Conditions Investigation and Research Center. The total annual sales in 2007 was 18.702 million tons, at an increase of 2.86% in comparison with 2006, of which 14.28 million tons were refined oil, at an increase of 7.2% in comparison with 2006, and 11.1202 million tons of refined oil were retailed, at an increase of 8.8% in comparison with 2006; 2.0815 million tons were sold through direct wholesale outlets, at an increase of 0.9ге in comparison with 2006; the annual sales of lubricants reached 300,000 tons, at an increase of 14.5% in comparison with 2006; the annual sales of fuel oil was 4.122 million tons.
