In 2009, the Company continuously perfect system and mechanism to foster a favorable environment for promoting science and technology innovation, gave full play of scientific and technological advancement as an “accelerator” of development so as to achieve all-round progress.

.  Progress in Critical Technology

The Company deepened study on theory and technology of oil and gas exploration and production with an increasing number of study fruits. Regarding study on exploration goal and key technology of the large Northeast Sichuan gas field, we clarified development and distribution law of high-quality reservoir, established various reef flat sedimentary models, hence strongly supported rapid growth of natural gas proven reserve. Regarding key technology study on Puguang gas field capacity construction, we developed 8 key technology series, such as evaluation and predication technology on reef flat facies reservoir, development technology on high-sulfur content reservoir, and 6 innovations, which were all technological support. Regarding key technology study on water-flooding development of major oilfields, we clarified time-varying characteristics of high-permeability reservoir fluids and reservoir property, and crude viscosity changing rules in different water-cut stages. We optimized unit well index and consolidated basis of unit stable production. High-efficiency gas injection process was developed in steam-flooding pilot test of super-heavy oil reservoir. Testing production amounted to 38500 tons. Technology study on exploration and EOR in Tahe oilfield enlarged reserve scale, and gave impetus to crude production growth. In addition, on the purpose of reinforcing study on oil engineering technology and geophysical technology, the Company established two affiliated institution in this year, namely Sinopec Research Institute of Petroleum Engineering and Sinopec Research Institute of  Geophysical Exploration.

The Company made new progress in oil products quality upgrading technology and increasing depth of processing technology. The Company was able to construct modern large-scale refineries completely relying on independent technology after successful application of extra-low pressure continuous reforming technology. Different scale of S-Zorb facilities by independent design and construction were successfully put into operation in a number of enterprises. Meanwhile, gasoline selective hydro-desulfurization technology was applied broadly. These were foundation of oil products quality upgrading. We finished commercialization of two viscosity grades in terms of SJ gasoline engine oil and CF-4 diesel engine oil, which enhanced high-grade internal combustion engine oil technology level. We finished process package development of 50000 tpa biodiesel industrial demonstration unit.

The Company made new progress in petrochemical package technology. Regarding 50000 tpa ethylene trimerization to 1-hexene package technology, we realized independent innovation in the fields of catalytic system, reactor selection and control, quality control, etc, which resulted in state-of-the-art package technology. We commercialized large-scale gas phase process PE package technology, which strengthened our chemical business. Basing on resin structural characterization and design of molecular structure, we successfully developed special material for PE gas pipe, for producing automobile bumper by polymer plant, enjoyed production capacity batch by batch, and promoted product structural adjustment. We successfully developed high-performance PE fiber package technology, and constructed a 300 tpa model plant. Every performance index of the product stood at an international leading level.

The Company made new progress in R&D of energy-saving and emission-reduction. Regarding study on water-saving and emission-reduction in chemical system, we developed over 40 technologies and obtained obvious efficiency, like special water treatment agent increasing concentration multiple of circulating water, reusing sewage through moderate treating by biological aerated filter. We developed low energy-consumption and low emission clean goal production technology, using low value product, for example, oil coke in refinery, to supply power, steam and hydrogen to production plant, so that CO2 emission can be cut from the very beginning. Conducting 10 domestically advanced and new technology, equipment and material of energy-saving heating furnace, we optimized refining plant model heating furnace and formed package technology of energy-saving refining heating furnace.

The Company made new progress in exploring renewable energy and new energy. We realized breakthrough in commercial preparation technology of methanol to low-carbon olefin thousand-ton-level molecular sieve catalyst, and of synthetic gas to oil and synthetic gas to ethylene glycol. We further combined petrochemical and coal-based technology, and consolidated technical foundation for strategic development.

. Breakthrough in Synthetic Material New Product Development

The Company made great efforts in new product R&D, supporting the product structural adjustment. We developed kinds of new products, such as special resin for silane cross-linked PE pipe, special material for heat-resist impact PP, SEBS with high content of 1,2-structure, styrene/butadiene polymer for foaming material, high-shrinkage label PET, high-density PET, etc. These new products upgraded the whole product level and met the market demand.

. Achievements in Science and Technology

In 2009, the Company applied for 1705 patents home and abroad, 642 were granted. In total, 605 were granted of 1570 domestic patents, 37 were granted of 135 overseas patents. The number of applied patent and granted patent both remained at the first class among central enterprises, either counted by yearly or by accumulative number.

11 projects won the 2009 National Award of Science and Technology Advancement. The first place went to “Development and Application of Naphtha Catalytic Reforming Package Technology”. The following 10 projects were awarded the second place. Binary combination high-efficiency flooding EOR Technology, Development and Application of Drilling Technology on Shengli Oilfield Complicated Structure Well, Application and Study on High-Speed Roller Bit and Vibrating Screen basing on Deep-well Drilling String Dynamics, Non-Planar Fracturing Technology on Dramatically Increasing Oil and Gas Yield and Its Commercialization, Cyclohexanone-Ammoximation-Based Caprolactam Production Package Technology, Development and Application of Axial Radial Reactor and New Catalyst in Ethylbenzene Dehydrogenation to Styrene Key Technology, Large-Scale Ethylene Plant Optimized Operation Technology and Its Commercialization, New technology on Emission-Reduction during Waste Sulfur Alkaline Solution Process and Its Commercialization in Chemical Industry, Theory System, Key Technology and Engineering Application of Heavy Duty Asphalt Road Design, and Study and Application of Non-Newtonian Fluid Rheological Properties Testing Technology.
